Martin & Pat 2 - Move on to Martin & Pat 3

Martin volunteered for the US Army in 1942, graduating from the 17th class of the Corp of Engineers, OCS, at Ft. Belvoir VA. He was assigned to the 612th Engineers & after training, embarked on the HMS Queen Mary (used as troop transport), landing in Scotland in 1943. The 612th Engineers landed at Utah Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944 & came ashore in tank-dozers. The 612th participated in 5 major campaigns of the war, including the Battle of the Bulge. After the defeat of Germany, the 612th was waiting in Marseilles, France to ship to the Pacific for the war against Japan when the Atom Bomb ended the war. The 612th was instead sent back to the USA & disbanded. In 1951, Martin was recalled to active duty and served in Korea. Members of the 612 Engineers have been meeting annually since it was disbanded. The 55th annual convention of the 612 Engineers will be in Kansas City, MO.
